To All The Mothers

Holiday Mother's Day

It's that time of year, when we get a day dedicated to celebrate ourselves, our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, stepmothers and the mother figures in our lives. It's an entire day where we can honor the women who raise us and thanks to the little ones who make us mothers, be celebrated. Hopefully, your day will be filled with handmade gifts, a special meal (not made by you), card or flowers from a loved one and spending time with those you love.

I would also like to mention that Mother's Day may have a different meaning for many and how this day is ultimately experienced.  Whether you are someone with a desire to become a mother, about to become a mother, lost a child, have a mother, or lost a mother - this day is for all of us. We can find something to celebrate and there is always something we can learn and appreciate from the season we are currently in.

While I do believe everyday is Mother's Day and we should show appreciation every day of the year, it is nice to have this one day filled with extra love and attention. As a relatively new mom, this is a day I proudly celebrate and holds a special place in my heart. I had no idea how hard motherhood would be until I got here and it has shown me to appreciate and respect my own mom even more. Here are a few things I didn't know about motherhood but could not imagine a life without.

I had no idea how someone so small could fill my entire heart (and how after having my second child, it could be filled even more); I could feel so busy yet get nothing done throughout the day; I could feel as if I don't know anything or am enough yet I learn something new everyday; I could feel so tired yet so energized; I could feel so overwhelmed yet so happy all at the same time. What I do know about motherhood is that those little ones are my EVERYTHING and to celebrate the little things. Even if I am feeling tired, overwhelmed or not enough…I remind myself they will only be little for so long, the memories we create will be forever and they will be grateful for it all.

The details of each and every day may be different right now because of COVID-19 and lots of adjustments have been made. But remember, even with restrictions enforced, stores and restaurants closed and the new normal being socially distant, it doesn’t mean you still can’t make the most of it. Think flowers, a card, breakfast made by your little ones, a picnic in the backyard or a simple phone call to let a mother or friend know you’re thinking of them.

Motherhood is a title we are given and earned. Embrace the moments that are full of sunshine and laughter and give yourself grace on the not so sunny days...they will get brighter.  So enjoy this special day and cheers to you, mama! YOU GOT THIS!

XO,

Stephanie
